Globalization would be a grand idea IF it were based on laissez faire with NO government involvement.

Even the subject of "free trade" has lost its meaning today. "'Free' trade" is supposed to mean free from government intervention. Yet the free trade foisted on Americans under NAFTA, etc. is nothing but Fascism with a smiley face. The litany of rules and regulations would bring a smile to Adolf the Paperhanger's face were he still alive.

So the true distinction is between GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION vs. the lack thereof if we desire true free trade and a wholesome globalism based on that -- all to result in liberty and an abundance of choices. res ipsa loquitar

If I ever have seen an utopian idea, this has to be it. The very idea that globalization will raise the living standard in the world to that of the greatest nations is lunacy. What will really happen is the leveling effect much the same as water seeks its natural level. The lesser will gain and the greater will subside to form a single source for labor and consumer markets. The wealthy will be much richer and the poor will still be just as poor.

The progressive philosophy is beautiful but the purpose of globalization is for the corporate elite to exploit cheap labor markets and reap extrodinary profits from an unsuspecting consumer market. That has always been the motive and purpose seeking foriegn markets.

There is almost no market for expensive U.S. goods in poor countries. We will let them make our goods until the lack of jobs in the homeland will no longer suport consumption. This is a no brainer. Without intervention the natural greed of mankind will hord the benefits of labor until all men perish. It is the true nature of survival of the fittest.
