Some Conservatives Express Concern Over Tea Partiers
“’There’s a libertarian streak in the tea party movement that concerns me as a cultural conservative,’ said Bryan Fischer, director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy at the American Family Association. ‘The tea party movement needs to insist that candidates believe in the sanctity of life and the sanctity of marriage.’” (Politico, Friday)
Isn’t an unencumbered commitment to human liberty the ultimate expression of a belief in the sanctity of human life … and yes, even marriage?

Social Conservatives have never been keen on personal liberty. This isnt surprising that they feel threatened by us.
Comment by Dustin on 13 March 2010:
As a Catholic I agree in preserving the sanctity of life and marriage but as a Libertarian I also know that the government is not to enforce morality. God gives us the freedom to choose our path in life. Next to His never ending love and grace free will would follow close behind in one of his greatest gifts He has given us. Conservatism might be slightly more fiscally responsible, but it signifies a control over human rights I.e. They try to play God. I question how conservatives think they stan for the sanctity of life when they continue to place the great men and women of our military in wars risking there life and for what appears to be trying to bully other countries to be more like us. We as a country need to find out who we really are; are we going to return to the country of our founders or continue down the path of tyranny and progressivism? I would rather have liberty and let the churches educate on morality than let our immoral government telling us what’s right and wrong!
Comment by Mary Francis Kennedy on 13 March 2010:
Countries have ruled throughout history based on a particular morality. The fact that laws are passed reflect a morality based on whatever that civilization considered moral.
Our Founding Fathers stated clearly that all men are created equal by their Creator. They deferred to the God of the Bible for their moral compass. That is why many who are trying to conserve the ideas of our Founding Fathers and share their belief that the Creator God reveals Himself in Holy Scripture reject same sex marriage, abortion and the like just as He plainly does in the Bible.
It is just not true that what we worship (all human beings worship something/someone) does not influence every aspect of our life. The Green movement is a perfect example of this principle.
Indeed, God does give free will and extends to us His creation the ability to choose to worship Him or not to. He spells out the consequences of both choices (Deuteronomy chapter 30)
