Jan. 05, 2012,
The USPS has become a monster that must be vanquished! It is controlled by greedy labor unions demanding too much for too long! Too many post offices! Too many holidays! Too many employees that do nothing, and can’t be laid off! Over paid workers! Too much medical insurance and too much pension!
PRIVATIZE IT YESTERDAY!

Privatization or be shut down, that is the choice. Why should taxpayers be forced at the point of a gun to pay for salaries and benefits that are more than double the private sector's employees? Government workers are not sacred cows. It is obvious that our 535 rock stars in congress won't shut it down as the workers are sure to vote for them. This is just another way for the rock stars to fleece our pockets. When will we learn and vote them out?

If mail was private, the workers would benefit as well. Do you think the employees like being overworked. They don't like handling long lines as much as we don't like standing in them. Can you imagine if the grocery store was solely ran by the government? We would be standing in line three days for cheese like they do in Russia. Something to think about.

I have to disagree with all your negative comments about the USPS. No, I don't nor ever did work for them, but I collected stamps as a child. That's my sole connection.
I know of no other service where the employees have to walk thru rain, snow and sleet to do their job.
Or, to try to read addresses that are handwritten or scribbled.
Or listen to managers that never delivered mail but "know it all."
Yes, they are paid well, but deserve it.
How many of you would accept a job where you have to spend 90% of
your working time walking with no one to talk to.
They currently deliver hundreds of millions of messages, billions of dollars in financial transactions to 8 million businesses and 250 million Americans.
And, every nation in the world is handling the mail the same way.
I think that some don't deliver the mail, but you have to go to the post office to pick it up. Is that better?

I stumbled upon this article by accident and started reading it with skepticism. The post office is one of the few legitimate functions of modern government since it is within the Constitution. I agree, they don't do it very well and if our founders knew how inept the US postal service was, they may have thought better of making it a part of the Constitution. Privatize the post office, but lets do it constitutionally by amending the Constitution. Enough of changing the role of federal government without considering the Constitution.

That is a great idea. I was looking for somewhere to vent about their monopolistic ineptitude when I came across your post. Nice idea.

Privatize the Post Office System but require that all Federal Mail and Federal packages be sent through this system. Then when Congress learns how inapt this system is, the Postal System will die a natural death.
