My son and his wife, both working for just above minimum wage, weren't benefited by the tax hike last year by Michigan's legislature. But the middle class sure as hell were. They got bigger school budgets. My son's money that he set aside for his lunch meal was taken away.

It has nothing to do with class warfare, it has to do with what the article is talking about - the legislators "hate the poor."

Look at it this way, Obama and Co.'s deficit for this past year was about $1.4T, in a country of 300 million people. That's about $4,300 for every man, woman and child. For my son, his wife and baby, that's nearly $13,000 total. That's the fake money that is being pumped into the economy. Add to that the jobs that left the markets when minimum wage was hiked, and you have a young family about to get hit with the largest price hikes in our history. Can they survive it? It worries me, if it doesn't worry them.

I've tried to teach them about economics. I've tried to encourage them to become more self-reliant. They aren't listening, because it doesn't hurt bad enough yet. Will I be able to help them? I'm not sure. Does Obama give a damn about what happens to them? Hardly. He only cares about himself, like Bush and all the useless folks in Congress.

The article is well done and so is Ed's comment.

Welfare destroyed the poor and it will wipe out the middle class as well. And when there is no middle class, there won't be anyone to draw transfer payments from. It never was a numbers game Dave.

Pass me a scrap brother.

I agree with the article, the exact same scheme is running in the Uk at the moment with pretty much the same effects.
I'm sure there is a lot of good to the scheme that I'm unaware of, but it still seems unwise.

And to the comment from Ed, all this class war stuff bores me, lets stop trending and predicting people and treat them all as similar yet unique agents. Taxing some to benefit others is always going to have unpredictable side effects, it's more than just a numbers game ;)

At one time the middle class griped about welfare for the poor. Now, the welfare programs are all aimed at the middle class, and the poor are those who eat the scraps - and those scraps are getting less and less every day.

The middle class have been getting all the welfare of late: corporate welfare, farm subsidies, larger school budgets, bigger student loans, etc. Now, no one gripes about welfare for the middle class; but thanks to the Welfare Reform Act, the only ones left out of the equation are those who are poor trying to work their way out. While their middle class counterparts are reaping huge subsidies, they are penalized by losing what little benefits they have simply because they decided to get a job and work for a living.

I hate Washington D.C.
