Standard pro globalization arguments. However national governments distort trade by giving welfare to rich corporations like walmart and preventing competitors from competing, its not just about better economies of scale.

International institutions like the IMF and again national governments distort the price mechanism of export/import trade. A sweater made in china for $2 transported to the US and sold for $50 sounds good..the supplier chain has made profit, the worker in China has been paid and the US consumer has gained a well made product 'cheap'. But have the real costs of transportation been taken into consideration? Does the $50 price of the sweater signify the real cost of producing and transporting it. No because governments subsidize and support cartelized transport and energy industries and the paper money system itself is manipulated to distort value/prices.

Unfortunately we don't have the data to show that the economic system that we are a part of does a good job of emulating the "natural order of things." Namely, the duality of life - left, right, up down, in out, employed unemployed. We should know every time someone gets hired (W4,SS app, etc.). What is the net gain or loss of jobs in the past year? Professor Terrell's is plausible, but lacks authority without data to support, or counter the unemployment "numbers."
