To me, The Discovery of Freedom, The God of the Machine, and Atlas Shrugged are the three most important books of the twentieth century.

I never met any of the authors, but I did know (and admire) Robert “Bob” LeFevre.

For those who are interested, Bob LeFevre was the real-life individual upon whom Robert Heinlein’s character “Professor Bernardo de la Paz” was based in the novel THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS.

Anthem, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, all three have been translated and printed in spanish; in Argentina and sold all over spanish speaking countries.

Rose Wilder Lane, Isabel Patterson…both were inspiring and important. But they paled next to Ayn Rand. I am no Randite, and disagree with some of her ideas…but in the main, she was dead on, and her book “Atlas Shrugged” seems no longer to be in the category of predictive sci fi, but rather – if trends continue – soon to be in the category of Historical Fiction.

I read The Fountainhead in 1978. As a junior studying Chemical Engineering, it was mind expanding, or maybe exploding. I was unfamiliar with the battle of individualism versus collectivism. Paying tuition, rent and food seemed more germain. My naivete and isolation were forever gone.

I read Atlas Shrugged the next year and my life was changed forever. While I am not a \"Randian\" her vision of achievement, self-reliance, and integrity have guided my life. I have given many copies of Atlas Shrugged to my children, friends, and acquaintenances over the years. Thank you Ayn Rand.

Anthemn was published in Swedish back in 1983 under the name Hymn, and in 1996 in a different translation under the name Lovsång.
