Why no comments on this article? That surprises me.

This is as clear, concise, and well written discussion of the 2nd Amendment as I have ever read. The turgidity and overwrought emotionalism that normally attends discussion of this subject is gratifyingly absent.

The article also makes clear that the 2nd amendment, if we wish to keep it, must not merely be selectively defended. The entire Bill of Rights is the life blood of our way of life, and we should not permit any of the Amendments to be tampered with or "interpreted" by the politicians of the moment.

We should also be clear in our own thinking. When the rights of gays, potheads, Muslims, blacks, protesters, Christians, or right wing extremists are violated, WE are affronted. WE are subject to attack, and OUR rights are threatened. Who ever we might be.

Right conduct must be its own reward. But my suspicion is, if we act in this spirit, we may encounter unexpected allies when the right to keep and bear arms is called into question. The Bill of Rights is not about politics or, as this article makes clear, the will of the majority. It is about a life of freedom and dignity for all who live in our country, for now and for the future...Earnest
