We have seen this drama in play since free markets were first in force in continental Europe decades after the Napoleonic War. The problem ofcourse is that the so-called disenfranchised are very good at sabotaging the efforts and successes of what Hayek called the MArket Entrepreneurs. The ones who engage in commerce through sheer innovation and competitiveness. The Political Entrepreneurs owever are the cowards. The ones who use the rule of law to disrupt the efforts of the ME. The PE like Mr. Gore are a classic example. What I would like to ask is this; As a consequence of this form of rent seeking, are we creatingf the makings of the South Seas bubble of 1720 when in an act of British Parliament, the SOuth Sea company was given a virtual monopoly of the South Seas shipping lanes in exchange for covering the British debt? It seems everytime we here of political favouritism in the economic sector, a resulting bubble manifests. It geometrically expands ofourse under a hyperinflated pumping of the money supple. No chance of that happening right?
