I doubt that Obama’s academic career included much economics other than the socialistic delusions about Marxism. But his actions in this and other matters smack of state capitalism. He wants to usurp the rule of law and manipulate the price system with price controls and subsidies to achieve political ends. Perhaps I have succumbed to a disturbed, paranoiac view of what he and the congress desire for our economy. I prefer to believe that their impulses are perilously mindless, but not benign.

what a joke--"usa a country of laws". obama, a shadowy figure who associates himself with marxists, corrupt unionists and violates contract law and the constitution for the benefit--payoff to the u.a.w. will find that political bankruptcies where the president calls the shots to favor corrupt unions and not protect the bondholders will not fly. the auto companies will never recover or repay the govt. they indeed will fail when the uaw--smelling any profits will demand more and more or threaten strikes. political bankruptcies benefit only one group and they are illegal. how many folks who have been screwed over by obama and the auto companies will buy their products? as for skilled workers. they are all unskilled labor.. the robots do most of the skilled work. production lines took away the skilled worker necessity. obama's buddys like the criminal steve rattner have had a crack at running gen. mtrs and he was fined 6.8 million for his corruption at the hedgefunds, who did their share to bring down the auto companies.. he also was paid a huge salary by obama for his short tenure at govt mtrs.

What a great article!

Kevin, great point commenting on Bastiat. I feel that in our political system we now have what Bastiat described as a bunch of arrogant "do gooders" who through their reforms will bring us a Utopia. "Reform yourselves and that will be enough!"

Any time a government does something, for someone, that the person cannot do on their own without breaking the law, it is against the proper role of government. (Government subsidies, health care, welfare, you name it and we are doing it)
