Great article! The major problem that is faced in the modern world is corruption in government. The problem has been with us for a long time and it may be no worse today than in the past, but articles such as this provide hope of the understanding needed to effect a solution.

Politicians who promoted or failed to oppose these unfortunate policies including Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Barrack Obama should immediately be removed from office. Many, like Franklin Raines clearly belong in jail.
This article should be on the front page of every newspaper in America.

[...] What is especially noteworthy is the process through which the American public has been desensitized to the explicit expansion of state power in eight short years. It is a virtue that humans adapt quickly to new environments, but this strength can be turned into a weakness by clever politicians.” Read more. [...]

I feel abused and I want revenge. I want someone to make a definitive list of the specific instigators of this man-made disaster. I've heard the weary, worn-out phrase, "there's plenty of blame to go around." Well, it's blame time; it's time to blame specific people. Point fingers and crucify in the court of public opinion those bastards (e.g. Frank Raines) who are now living the high life while the rest of us suffer. I want to know who started this. Who's benefitting from this? The dumb people who bought more house than they could afford are getting their just deserts with foreclosures. Their stupidity is disgusting and they deserve what's happening to them. But the instigators are the ones who should be tarred and feathered. At the very least, they should be despised & derided publicly. Does this sound naive? I don't care. It's time to stop philosophizing and name names. This is a wonderful article; it's the best I've read on the subject. Now it's time to stop defining the problem and name names.

As always, Bob Murphy is right on the money. As a former banker myself, I can only say that Bob has summed up the mortgage market meltdown perfectly. The Federal government caused the problem; now it will make it much worse. Expect a long and deep recession.
