Education is the next big bubble. The cost is out pacing incomes and is due a major correction. The entire model needs re-thinking. Colleges are packing in wasteful classes based on their idea that a student needs to be "well rounded". Simple fact is they are finding new ways to increase their own balance sheets.

Life experiences have a lot to do w our educational needs. A system that facilitates entry and exits out of the system as needed would greatly improve people's interest in education.

Education has changed little to meet people's needs. They would probably wake up if they had to turn a profit w/o gov handouts.

AS A FORMER PROFESSOR I CAN SAY WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF CERTAINTY
THAT MANY STUDENTS ARE IN COLLEGE NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE THIRSTING
FOR KNOWLEDGE, BUT RATHER FOR OTHER LESS N0BLE REASONS.

I DO AGREE THAT THE GOVT. IS NOT FIT, NOR SUITED TO MAKE THE
EDUCATIONAL DECISIONS. THE NEAR "FREE RIDE" OFTEN SUPPLIED, AND NOW PROMOTED BY THE OBAMANS IS NOT THE WAY TO GO.

IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT SOME MATURING IN THE WORKPLACE WOULD BE A GOOD THING AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. MANY, MANY 18 YEAR OLDS DO NOT
WANT TO READ ABOUT GREEK PHILOSOPHY, ENGLISH LIT. ETC. ETC.
I SPEAK AS A WW11 VETERAN WHO WENT TO COLLEGE AT AGE 23
AFTER SOME MATURING LIFE EXPERIENCES. AFTER THE WAR I WENT TO
NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL TO REVIEW ALL THE MATH AVAILABLE SO THAT I
COULD HANDLE IT AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL.
COLLEGE IS CERTAINLY NOT FOR EVERYONE.

I think our aversion to truly free education (free as in control, not price) is the fear that some potential genius will be stuck with poor parents (or worse, indifferent parents) who never instill the desire for education or provide the requisite opportunity.

Now I’m not saying that those who are making our decisions for us are doing it well. In fact they consistently teach to the lowest common denominator and alienate those potential geniuses I mentioned.
