I just read your article, and I have some questions. Please keep in mind I am just a lowly broken soldier with a traumatic brain injury and am in no way attempting to debate you. I know I would loose.

Anyway here are my questions, but First;

The Wealth of Nations: "The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich, and a magnificent house embellishes and sets off to the best advantage all the other luxuries and vanities which they possess. A tax upon house-rents, therefore, would in general fall heaviest upon the rich; and in this sort of inequality there would not, perhaps, be anything very unreasonable. It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion (Adam Smith, An Inquiry into the Nature And Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). Book Five: Of the Revenue of the Sovereign or Commonwealth. CHAPTER II: Of the Sources of the General or Public Revenue of the Society. ARTICLE I: Taxes upon the Rent of House)."

Am I wrong in assuming Adam Smith is describing a progressive tax policy?

And second: If socialism is a planned economy, and no one is wealthy, then how can there be a progressive tax plan? Are you arguing that a progressive tax policy would lead to socialism? And if so how would that be a bad thing for someone like myself who is living off of a disability pension after being wounded in a war? Is the argument that the working poor would be worse off with a progressive tax policy? Or is the argument stating that the working poor may see a temporary increase in social equality and then end up slaves to an intrusive government, because incentive to work is lost?

Keep in mind I am lowly commoner from a very small University in the middle of nowhere and I have not had the privilege of an elite education. Lastly, (assuming you actually read this and respond) I will be happy to read any source material you recommend. It's not like I have anything else to do with my time.

Thank you for a wonderful read, I truly enjoy having my values questioned and I wish you well.
