If this article was suppose to be representative of the values and principles of Libertarianism, I can no longer support such a position. I mean, think about it, the article's author basically setting up the classic Right-wing desideratum here:

PC-ness vs Freedom*
Cultural Competence vs Liberty**

*Conservative Newspeak for "the right to be offensive"
**Conservative Newspeak for "the right to be closed-minded"

Basically, if you agree with Cultural Competence, and PC-ness, you're a, de facto, unAmurrican pinko-Commie socialist liberal big government crony. This is NOT a legitimate argument! This is a childish attempt to puff-up childish name-calling with an argument as something that it is so NOT.

Really, what the argument should be focused on (and what it SO strayed from) is the fact that if Public Education does anything, (Right-)Libertarians, and their Conservative Fanboys, are going to hate it, because Public Education = "Government-Funded Education" and is, therefore, BAD (because anything thats Government-Funded is BAD... One of the cliche roadblocks of attempting to have a legitimate discussion with Libertarians and their self-loathing Objectivist cousins).

Social Justice, or what PC-ness and Cultural Competence are part of when whole, is about everyone being free in the most (true) Libertarian sense of being free; A child is therefore free to know that having gay parents or being gay is an option. If a parent doesn't like it, he is free to disagree, but to say the parent has the right to deny his child the freedom of access to information should be an affront to what it means to be a Libertarian! I mean, we're talking about the Freedom to be told everything here. Or, if I might dare ask, are we to say that Children are the property of their parents and, as Libertarians, we should respect a parent's right to do as they please with their property? I'm sure NAMBLA could use some of this private property lovin' from their local Libetarians, hmph.

And, to be quite honest, the case of Ed Swan is a bad example if you're trying to be critical. Point in case, conservative political and religious views are antithetical to Liberty. You can't be a free individual if your religious values dictate your life (or dictate how you treat others). You can't be a free individual if conservative dogma dictates who is human and who is not; Seriously, the next thing I expect from this article's author is the idea the Libertarians are Pro-life! As if!

Seriously, Cultural Competence, and even more so PC-ness, could be channeled to achieve a lot of Libertarian ends (maybe not the economic ones, but very much so the social ones) or you have to accept that your definition of what it means to be a Libertarian is to be a "Social Conservative" (which makes about as much sense as labeling the Georgie Dubya Bush the Second Coming of Christ).

It's not enough that we are subjected to the mind altering, indoctrinating ideologies of the far left in our universities that train teachers, but now we have professors taking their show on the road to "change" the attitudes and behaviors of experienced teachers to this fecal socialist movement.

Dr. Roger Cleveland of Eastern Kentucky University, formerly from Morehead State Universiity, is presenting his program to our local "independent" school system's faculty tomorrow to spawn the movement even further. In his presentation, assimilation is the negative and "going beyond" diversity is the charge. It is a remake of collectivism, socialism, forced integration, and affirmative action put into action with a guilt ridden, willing audience to embrace.

Individualism is never mentioned even though the concept of our societies "culture" is all about the individual.

The saddest part is while Dr. Cleveland sees himself as a pioneer of justice and is a proponent for "looking into the mirror of oneself for biases", he himself has spent his career totally focused on propogating one race in education, his own. Typical progressive thinking that is even more racist than the claims he proposes to make.
