Philmore, I can say confidently that whatever Nozick said, the work of Hayek and the like provides definite theoretical resources for opposing &quot;voluntary slavery.&quot; I can&#039;t remember where, but Hayek explicitly states that freedom of contract does not mean we must honor every contract. It only means we must honor every contract which live up to certain long-standing principles. One of these principles, in a modern free society, must surely be that selling oneself as a slave is not a valid contract.

I wish I didn&#039;t know so many &quot;libertarians&quot; who think that libertarianism means I can do whatever I want.</description>
