Allen,

"it is absolutely fine for a government to take the resources necessary from those who have more than what they need to take care of the people it is in place to represent."

"It’s my personal belief that those who have far more than they need have a personal responsabilty to the society they live in to give up some of that wealth for the betterment of said society."

Whether or not you will admit it, you believe in slavery.

"Greed will make us say no, and some will do so violently, but in the end it is the right thing."

It is YOUR greed for other people's money that sickens me. You cannot live with inequality and that justifies forcing others into your servitude because they make more.

Take a look in the mirror at your own envy and greed, disguised under good intentions. You mean well but you promote immorality to fix income inequality. Two wrongs do not make a right.

The fact that some have more than others is neither good nor bad. Yet you assign it bad because of the inequality. And you are ok with the means of forcing others into servitude to obtain your ends. However good your ends are, your means sicken me.

I'm sorry, but I have to whole hearted disagree with you here. I very much belive that every human being has a right to medical care. And it is absolutely fine for a government to take the resources necessary from those who have more than what they need to take care of the people it is in place to represent. I.E. in the form of income and personal property tax for instance.

Why should some go without when there are those who have more than they could ever spend in a lifetime. It just sickens me.

\"With respect to the two words \'general welfare,\' I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.\" --James Madison

\"[T]he government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.\" --James Madison

The above quotes emphatically verify the fact that the federal/national government has no authority or power to enter into fields or areas that are NOT granted!

Well done. It is interesting the piece was written in 1997. Things have not changed except for the worse. Many of the points of the last few paragraphs are happening and causing the predicted response. My dad was a G.P. and served in WWII and then practiced another 20 years after until his health forced him to retire. Were he alive today he would be appalled, as am I. As a kid I remember him worring about the consequences of medicare and socialized medicine.
The Roman republic fell from socialism. Europe is failing and sadly so are we.

This is a great piece. Thanks for writing it. Back in 1957 Ayn Rand wrote in the Objectivist Newsletter an article entitiled "The Forgotten Man of Socialized Medicine: The Doctor." It referred to President Kennedy urging letters be written to newspapers in support of his medical plans. This business of a right to medical care is an old story. Hopefully we americans are waking up to what is going on.
Your apple analogy is great. I like to use shoes. After all we can't expect people to go without shoes. Of course they will all be black and only two pair every three years.
