		<description>I know that the idea of Robin Hood as presented here is likely to be referring to the simplistic, popular conception of him as simply, &quot;Taking from the rich and giving to the poor.&quot;  However, the rich in Feudal periods (much like those who possess wealth today) got it by using the government.

Government, as we all know, is the entity with a monopoly on the use of force (cf. Weber) and, as such, any regulation enacted by the state will be backed up with said force.  Now if the principle that only property which has been legitimately acquired can be legitimately transferred, this suggest to me that there is some capacity for government to be acting as Robin Hood.

That is, the government has used force to keep competitors out of the market, which allowed firms to garner a larger amount of wealth than they would have otherwise.  Because force was used, the excess wealth that they have procured was not acquired legitimately.  Some sort of redistributive scheme, it seems, must be justified.</description>
