I agree completely about the damage of professional licensing. The records show that the medical societies lobbied for licensing not out of a concern for patients but out of a concern for falling incomes. It was designed to restrict the number of doctors coming into the marketplace. I've mentioned it many times but left it out of this article because it is a state, not a national, matter.

As, usual, excellent points, clearly presented.
Another important issue is the damage resulting from the various laws requiring medical licensing. I realize that this is a difficult subject but eventually it will need to come to the forefront. I have found that many people are terrified to even consider it, particularly in the medical field. There are a number of persuasive papers detailing the logic and voluntary market approach this would represent, but not yet in the "popular" mainstream.

Not to mention the unintended consequences. I know from first hand experience that the congressional law that compelled ERs to treat everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, closed our free clinic. It was open 3 days a week, from 9 till 4 PM. We treated mostly hispanic families. But why should they take the time out of their work day to see us when they could get all night coverage at the local hospital. It only took 6 months before we just shut our doors. Funny thing, for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Su Salad, there was only one employee, the administrator. Everyone else was a volunteer. Compelling charity via 'pre-existing condition elimination' will have some severe effect on all of us. I just don't know what the effect will be (our salvation?).
