The server enters a string into the database- which is market off with quotation marks. In order to tell the database that the quotation marks aren't the end of the comment, but rather part of it, they are escaped with a \. When the comments are retrieved, they need to have the escape characters removed first. Someone simply forgot to include that function in the website's code. (My sincere apologies for the overload of prepositional phrases. I am really too tired to recast the sentence.) I\'m talking about slash marks like the ones you\'re seeing in this very paragraph. They\'re really annoying, and I can\'t stand seeing them. They are getting inserted, it seems, after the submission of a bad captcha. Which is quite common here, given that these captchas are nearly as illegible to human eyes as they are intended to be to robots. I love the site, but please tweak the commenting software and captcha thingee. Your users invest time and good faith in crafting comments; it seems uncouth to let those efforts be rendered nearly unreadable.
