As a private sector employee I used to wonder what kind of a person would work hard at a "non-essential" job . . . and what kind of a person would admit they were "non-essential"? Only later did I learn that others made that decision. I never saw an ill effect from such an event except that the subways went to a weekend schedule and I had a harder time getting to work on time.
