Wow! I wish I could write so well and articulate these things this well to people I interact with. I read Ayn Rand when I was about 16 or 17 and it resonated deeply. For years, I didn't think much about the nature of a free society or what it means to be a citizen of any particular state although I have always been wary of authority/government. Within the last year or so, I have become an avid student of economics (of the Austrian strain, of course). It is like a fire is burning in my head and I obsess about freedom and what it means and everywhere I look I see the world with the lenses of what Bastiat calls "what is not seen". Yesterday I was asked by a friend of my boss where I go on the internet to find libertarian information and I enthusiastically told him about FEE. Minutes later he told me it was my societal duty to pay for his medical care through taxation. I wonder if there is a libertarian/free market sort of discussion board out there. If one doesn't believe that a person has natural rights pre-government or pre-state, and implies that instead rights are arbitrarily made up and determined by government, how can you argue for freedom?

Ideas indeed are very powerful, and the idea of free men in a free society verses the collective control of society, is the most urgent and important fight America is facing today!

I love finding extremely valuable resources on the internet that clearly provide this education in readily available form.
This site is certainly among the best!

Recently I discovered a site called http://www.learn-usa.com
and was very disturbed to find the level of systemic efforts to undermine the future of our free society by those whom are able to use government institutions to indoctrinate our children with an anti-free society ideology. The National Council for Social Studies is just one such instrument, yet has wrecked havoc upon the morals and principles of this countries posterity.

I would like to see this organization investigate this, and warn the parents as to how our children have been reeducated against what we teach them right under our noses in the public schools
and with the influential in popular culture medians.

Very nice piece. Please, however, do not be afraid to have the FEE launch a few arrows toward those that would diminsh liberty by using the public's $$ to prop up (or enrich the profits of) so-called private enterprises. The continuing saga of AIG, the Big Three, Citi and BOA are just as much a threat to liberty as the recent infatuation with Keynes.

Thank YOU, Doug, for the kind words and for your good work and dedication to liberty. I'll be delighted to help any time, so never hesitate to let me know. For our movement to grow, we MUST extend a hand to every comrade we can.

Excellent, excellent, excellent, Mr. Reed. What a wonderful statement of values for the rest of us to follow. EXCELLENT!

I discovered FEE back in 1979 when I began college and FEE's message has not changed. Many of us owe a great debt to FEE for your consistent, humane, and inspiring example to the cause of freedom.

With a growing concern at the political assault on individual liberty, I started a blog (January 2009) hoping to influence the small sphere of individuals who would listen to the "freedom philosophy." In your kindness, Mr. Reed, you helped my little blog by being the first "big boy" on the freedom trail to re-post the story of Dr. Hang Ngor. You demonstrated the core character value of humility to help us out. Thanks for the many unending and enduring ideas flowing out of FEE. And thanks for your commitment to win in the battle of ideas. I am and will remain a life long student of the Foundation for Economic Education.
