Let's Hear It for One-Party Autocracy
One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century.
Who wrote that? Thomas Friedman of the New York Times. Is any comment necessary? Possible?

Comment by Jacob Steelman on 12 September 2009:
What does Thomas Friedman think we have in the United States 2 party rule? For the most part there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats both are carrying out the agendas of the ruling elites. They may differ on the fine tuning but they both support expansion of government intervention and the command-and-control economy and society in areas favored by the ruling elites they represent. Both political parties support continuation of the Federal Reserve and its printing of fiat currency which has caused our current financial collapse. Both political parties favor war and expansion of America’s empire. Both parties support huge government expenditures. Both parties support the continuation of the income tax. Both parties support extensive regulation of the economy. Both parties support usurping the decisions of consumes with government regulation. Both parties support government ownership of various businesses such as the postal service, education, TVA, Amtrak, financial services. For all practical purposes “there is not a dimes worth of difference between either political party.”
