Inflation works to the benefit of the government because it erodes the value of government debt. Bernanke knows this and is nick-named Helicopter Ben for some comments he once made about how the government could combat deflation by simply printing money and dropping it from a helicopter. The ultimate solution is the abolish the Fed and allow the money supply to be tied to hard assets.
