Great editorial today on the Federal Reserve by Freeman columnist Walter Williams in the Washington Times
Comment by Carl Clegg on 18 December 2008:
Walter Williams’ recommendation that the government eliminate taxes on gold, silver and platinum transactions in order to provide people with a money substitute that is more resistant to inflation would be a step in the right direction. Inflation works to the benefit of the government because it erodes the value of government debt. Bernanke knows this and is nick-named Helicopter Ben for some comments he once made about how the government could combat deflation by simply printing money and dropping it from a helicopter. The ultimate solution is the abolish the Fed and allow the money supply to be tied to hard assets.
Comment by Amy on 5 February 2009:
I agree with Carl! And now I don’t have to type a long comment. If the Fed has those Emergency Print Money gadgets, I think that ALL citizens should have them in their homes. Go hog wild! Really make the dollar worthless. But it won’t matter cuz we’ll all have Gazillions of them!
