Mises, Human Action and the Austrian economists offer the only explanation of the financial collapse which commenced in 2007. More importantly they offer the only solution for extricating ourselves from this financial collapse and avoiding future financial collapse. The legacy of Human Action and Mises is the worldwide following that he created as a result of his teachings. When I first was introduced to the works of Mises and Mises himself at a FEE summer seminar the number of libertarians and Austrians were relatively small. Mises and Human Action was the common thread, the guiding light and the principal intellectual head of this movement. He was the teacher of Rothbard and many other early intellectuals of the moverment. It was upon this firm foundation that the libertarian and Austrian philosophies and movement were built. Now this movement has spread all over the world. Today there are numerous Austrian institutions around the world not to mention websites and blogs all of which are carrying on the work of Mises and the teachings set out in Human Action. Even establisment organizations are beginning to acknowledge the need for private money as an alternative to the failed central bank system which has resulted in the current global financial disaster. As did Smith's Wealth of Nations influence the eighteenth century so to will Mises Human Action represent a milestone in the evolution of economics in the twenty first century.
